Location

Mount Kilimanjaro lies on the border of Tanzania and Kenya, just south of the Equator. To the west lies the Great African Rift Valley, created by tremendous tectonic forces which also gave birth to a string of other volcanoes.

Participants

This July Rana Muwahid is leading a team to Tanzania to climb Africa's largest mountain, as part of a campaign aimed at raising critically needed funds to support MAP's ongoing work in Gaza.

Rana is a dentist working in the UK who decided to get out and do something to help those affected by the devastating Israeli attacks on Gaza in January. Originally from a small Palestinian village near Jerusalem, Rana sees her team's conquering of the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro as a means to raise both awareness and funds to help the thousands of Palestinians in Gaza that benefit from MAP's projects.

Mt Kilimanjaro is 5,891 metres high (19,330 feet) and climbing it is no easy feat(?). Rana has been training for 6 months in order to prepare for the physical ordeal of the 'Machame Route' up to the summit, which should take five days to ascend.

Whilst speaking to MAP about the challenge, Rana admitted that it is difficult to imagine two more different places in the world than the free and boundless plains of Tanzania, compared with the blockaded 360 square-kilometres of the Gaza Strip - home to over 1.4 million Palestinians.

Rana spoke of the fantastic response and support she has received since deciding to take on what she described as 'the biggest climb of my life'.

Rana Muwahid & co. climbing Mt Kilimanjaro

Our team will be heading to Tanzania in July to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and we would be very grateful for your sponsorship. As you may know, the conflict that took place earlier this year in Gaza has left many homeless, displaced and injured. The crisis has left two thirds of Gaza's 1.5 million residents without power, running water and medical facilities. Children were left deprived of basic human needs and many suffer PTD (post traumatic disorders). MAP was one of the 1st international aid agencies to respond to this humanitarian crisis by supplying medicines, emergency aid workers, hygiene kits and shelter for those displaced.

Our aim is to raise 10,000 pounds and donations of any size will be greatly appreciated.

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give - so every donation goes further - and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.
