Fundraiser of the month: Elspeth Sherwen

67 lengths, 67 years, 67 minutes!

After visiting the Ramallah office last year with husband Allan, to deliver £1,000 to the staff there, Elspeth Sherwen is now celebrating another success. This time, Elspeth has swum 67 lengths, already raising over £1000 for MAP. The 67 lengths matched her 67 years, and she swam it in an impressive 67 minutes! With 1967 being such an important year in the history of Palestine, it is poignant that this has been a recurring figure in Elspeth's story, as she fundraises for Medical Aid for Palestinians 43 years on.

"I managed the swim in a much better time than I had hoped, as I am not a fast swimmer, nor had I swum this distance since my daughter asked me to raise money through her school 25 years ago! It was a great idea using the number 67 as several people sponsored me £67."

All at MAP are really grateful for the money Elspeth has raised so far, not only through her sponsored swim, but also together with her husband Allan, by asking friends to donate to MAP in lieu of Christmas cards and holding coffee mornings and monthly stalls in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Elspeth and Allan fundraised £1,000 for MAP in 2009 and have doubled this amount in 2010 by raising an impressive £2,000 overall. They are now both planning to fundraise through running the Keswick half marathon in May 2011.
