Last night Medical Aid for Palestinians’ team in Gaza reported that Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza. Tank shelling was also reported across the north and east of the Beit Hanoun area. At least five Palestinians were injured. The attacks were reportedly prompted by a small number of rockets launched by militants from Gaza towards Sderot in Israel, causing no injuries.
This is a serious escalation of violence coming during the two-year anniversary of the devastating 2014 attacks.
These strikes have brought back terrifying memories for Palestinians in Gaza, many of whom fear a new round of sustained violence.
We are concerned by these latest attacks and hope that the calm will prevail.
