Call to action: Ask your MP to support access to healthcare for Palestinian prisoners

In the first week of 2016, Parliament hosted a debate on Palestinian children in military detention at which the Government outlined its plans to follow-up on the 2012 Children in Military Custody report, with a delegation of UK lawyers due to head to Israel in February.

This delegation was cancelled after Israeli officials pulled out of meetings at the last minute and the UK Government has since been exploring alternate opportunities for working on this area. NGOs Addameer and Public Committee Against Torture – Israel met with the FCO, Ministry of Justice and Parliamentarians in May to call on the UK to take steps to address these issues.

Almost a year has passed since that debate and there has been no action from the UK.

While in the UK in May, Addameer and PCAT-I spoke at a screening of a new film by William Parry and Caroline Rooney, ‘Breaking the Generations: Palestinian prisoners and medical rights’. Through interviews with former detainees, their families and legal and health experts, the film addresses several key human rights and humanitarian issues faced by Palestinian prisoners.

For the first time, you can now view this film online:

We encourage all of our supporters to watch this important film and email your MP, encouraging them to act on the issues it raises.
