Environmental Health

Environmental health is of crucial concern. The lack of access to clean water, the high prevalence of open sewers, poor shelter conditions and a low level of health awareness all contribute greatly to the health problems of Palestinian refugees.

In partnership with local organisations, MAP is working in the unregistered camps to address environmental concerns such as

Some Examples of MAP's Work
The community development programme for Lebanon's Dbaye Camp, for example, will develop a capacity to appraise needs and access welfare and development funds in a camp that has long been overlooked. A representative and accountable local committee will be established to manage small grants to improve the environmental health infrastructure of the camp by repairing roofs and ceilings, mending water and sewage leaks within the home and improving access for the disabled.

In Lebanon's unregistered camps, MAP is working with PARD, the Palestinian Association for Relief and Development, to collect and monitor water from local water sources and households throughout the camps. These will be analysed over a one year period to show exposure to water bourne diseases and chemical contamination of the water table.
