Ein el-Hilweh Camp

Date of establishment: 1949 by the international committee of the Red Cross.

Geographical location: Near the city of Sidon, South of Beirut.

Area: 301,039 square metersOwnership: Private property with the municipality of Saida.

Number of Residence: 45,337 total registered refugees according to UNRWA.

Educational services: 9 UNRWA elementary/preparatory schools and 1 secondary school for 7,544 enrolled pupils in 2003/2004. The secondary school was constructed by UNRWA with funds from the Government of Japan and was opened in 1997.Health services: 2 UNRWA Health Center.

Mieh w Mieh Camp

Date of establishment: 1954

Geographical location: 5 km away from the city of Sidon, south Lebanon.

Area: 5,404 square meters

Rashidieh Camp

Date of establishment: The old section of the camp was established in 1952, and the new section in 1963.

Ownership: property Saint Joseph monastery.

Educational services: The 144 pupils of the camp attend UNRWA's Carmel Elementary/Preparatory School in Burj Hammoud, East Beirut, for the year 2003/2004 Health services: UNRWA Health Center.

Mar Elias Camp

Geographical location: North-West Beirut .

Area: 5,400 square meters, the smallest refugee camp.

Ownership: Private property.

Number of Residence: 1,411 total registered refugees according to UNRWA.

Shatila Camp

Date of establishment: 1949

Geographical location: South-West of Beirut.

Area: 39,568 square meters.

Wavel Camp

Geographical location: 90 km east of Beirut in the Beqaa Valley, near the city of Baalbeck.
