Quantities fall slightly at Gaza crossing
18 August 2010
Maan News - Israeli authorities opened one crossing into Gaza Wednesday for the limited transfer of aid and commercial goods.
Israeli officials told told Radio Israel the week earlier that supplies would be boosted for Ramadan, with an average of 350 truckloads of goods per open day.
Palestinian crossing liaison officials were told Wednesday morning, however, to expect 180-190 loads of supplies in addition to limited amounts of domestic-use fuel and industrial diesel.
The goods were to be delivered through the southernmost Kerem Shalom crossing.
The last UN report on Gaza crossings recorded an increase in overall goods being allowed into the area, just over 200 truckloads a day.
"The weekly number of truckloads allowed in, however, represented only 36 percent of the weekly average of truckloads that entered during the first five months of 2007, prior to the imposition of the blockade," the report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for 28 July to 10 August said.
