MAP Launches Mobile Clinic

On 11 August, a new mobile medical clinic was officially launched, to serve 26 Bedouin encampments in the district of Jericho.

An integral part of the EC-funded project, Provision of Primary Health Care: a special emphasis on combating anaemia and malnutrition for Bedouin women and children in Jericho District and vicinity, this mobile clinic will provide primary health care to thousands of individuals, particularly women and children, who would otherwise have no access to basic essential health care. The majority of project beneficiaries are women of reproductive health age and children 0 - 5 years from the 26 Bedouin encampments.

This mobile medical clinic is being run by MAP's partner, the Islah Charitable Society (ICS).

Designed and equipped to provide confidential screenings to patients, this mobile clinic (pictured below) contains a private examination couch with lamp, a refrigerator for medicines, a computerized patient filing system, a microscope, a centrifuge, a projection screen for health education materials on CDs; as well as, a silent electric generator and a communication unit with ICS headquarters in Jericho. This mobile clinic is assisting doctors, nurses and Community Health Workers to administer essential curative and preventive health services; including health education/health promotion, antenatal care, baby check-ups, and blood tests.

For the isolated and under-serviced Bedouin encampments, this mobile clinic will greatly contribute to improving the health status of the Bedouin communities in the Jericho district.
