AL WALEED REFUGEE CAMP
The al-Waleed camp is located two kilometres inside Iraq close to the Al Tanf border crossing. 1,649 refugees (1,602 are Palestinians) from Iraq (many of whom have relatives in Al Tanf camp) live in the camp. UNHCR expected this number to increase as new families continue to arrive at the camp.
UNHCR staff report that 30-40 persons arrive on a weekly basis fleeing ongoing threats and attacks in Baghdad. Most of the residents from the camp are coming from a lower socio-economic background as some of them were not even able to buy an Iraqi passport at the time they left Baghdad.
