Healthcare Under Siege

The Oxford Society for Medicine announces an unprecedented gathering on the 13th of May of world-leading academics, doctors and surgeons including Dr. Richard Horton (Editor of the Lancet), Sir Terence English (Professor Emeritus in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cambridge University), and Sir Iain Chalmers.

In this conference, the speakers will draw on their personal experiences in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt) to expose the devastating effect of crippling economic blockades and military attacks on civilian health and access to medical care in Gaza.A distinguished assembly of guests will discuss how the British medical community can best channel time and resources in ameliorating these lamentable conditions.

They include the MAP President, Lord Chris Patten of Barnes, the Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University Dame Shami Chakrabarti, politicians and Members of Parliament Mr Tony Benn, Mr George Galloway and Dr. Evan Harris.

Sir Terence English - Professor Emeritus in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cambridge University. Former President of the Royal College of Surgeons and first surgeon to perform a heart transplant in the UK in 1979
