Beit al-Mustaqbal Association (BAM)
Located in the eastern village of Khusaa in Khan Yunis, BAM has been registered as an NGO since 2001. It aims at improving living standards for women and their children by empowering women through the provision of training, income generating projects and work opportunities.
(External) Culture and Free Thought Association (CFTA)
The Culture and Free Thought Association was established in 1992 out of a growing concern for Palestinian children who, as a result of the occupation, were left with no safe space inside or outside the home. Today it works closely with the community to establish a progressive democratic society.
Deir el Balah Rehabilitation Society (DRS)
The DRS centre is in Deir El-Balah town, about 12 kilometres south of Gaza City. Congenital disability, such as deafness, is common in Gaza, due to a high rate of inter-familial marriage and a prevalence of very early marriage. However, there is considerable stigma attached to congenital disability and disabled children, and adults, tend to be kept at home and out of sight.
The DRS centre challenges these prejudices, providing education and training for over 85 pupils. For ages 16 and over, there is a vocational training centre and a supported work placement scheme. There is also an outreach programme supplying disability aids, a family counselling service and a newly opened physiotherapy centre for the physically disabled, many of who have sustained injuries during the Intifada.
(External) Early Childhood Resource Centre (ECRC)
The Early Childhood Resource Centre (ECRC), is a Palestinian non-governmental organisation based in Jerusalem. It is a leading initiative dedicated to address the needs of the Palestinian community in the field of early childhood education care and development.
The ECRC aims to upgrade, promote and develop the early childhood sector in Palestine. ECRC is guided by the comprehensive integrated developmental approach with the conviction that the development of the child's cognitive, physical and psychosocial processes will eventually lead to the development of a well integrated Palestinian child.
(External) Institute of Community and Public Health
The Institute of Community and Public Health (ICPH) at Birzeit University was established first as a unit in 1978, then as a department, and finally in 1998 as an Institute. Its growth and development came in response to the Palestinian community's urgent need for independent and informed health human resource development, research and planning, model building and implementation of health care services locally.
The Institute aims to contribute to the improvement of Palestinian health and health services through policy and programme-oriented research and the utilisation of field research for teaching, training and the developement of models of excellence in health care delivery. Teaching and training focus on equipping students with the concepts, skills and practices to improve service availability, accessibility and quality.
(External) Foundation for Al-Quds University Medical School (FQMS)
FQMS is an independently registered charity in the UK, the medical school is a faculty of the Palestinian University of Jerusalem (Al-Quds in Arabic).
(External) Health Work Committees
HWC is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that emerged in 1985 to narrow existing gaps in health care for the Palestinian population of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. HWC provides health care to people regardless of their race, gender, religion or political affiliation.
HWC, through the contribution of its professional cadres, seeks to influence general health policies in order meet of international standards of human rights.
Humannes Succor Association
Established in 1994, Humannes Succor provides a wide range of health, rehabilitation, social and other services to Palestinian victims of the occupation as well as other vulnerable communities in marginalised areas.
(External) Makassed Islamic Charitable Hospital
Founded in 1964, Makassed was originally established as charitable society. From small beginnings, with few beds or departments, Makassad is today one of the largest hospitals in the West Bank.
The hospital offers secondary and tertiary treatment facilities and is a main venue for the training of medical students, nursing students and post-graduate doctors.
al-Majd Women's Association
Established in 1995 as a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, al-Majd works in the Middle Area of Gaza - al-Nusierat, al-Bureij, al-Maghazi and al-Zawaydah, targeting The Association encourages the active participation of women in Palestinian society through a broad range of programmes including training courses in food production, sewing, knitting, embroidery, and literacy, health awareness courses, and workshops on women and society.
(External) Palestine Counselling Centre (PCC)
Established in 1983, the PCC is a community based counseling and consultancy organisation that advocates for positive mental health and well being for the Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) through provision of quality care and capacity building.
Since its establishment, the PCC has been working with the most marginalized and underprivileged Palestinians through the provision of quality care and the building of skills and capacities of those who work with these individuals and groups. As one of the few professional mental health organizations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the PCC, with its emphasis on the provision of quality care and a multi-disciplinary approach to service provision, is an important actor within all sectors of the community.
Palestine Save the Children Foundation (PSCF)
Established in 1999, PSCF is engaged in training technical assistance, advocacy, awareness-raising and education throughout the Gaza Strip. Its mission is to improve the lives of Palestinian children with a focus on environment and health issues and the empowerment of civil society to expand the scope of human rights protection. PSCF promotes broad participation in the construction of effective human rights standards and procedures.
(External) Palestinian Association for Development & Reconstruction (PADR)
PADR is a domestic relief and development organisation that encourages the emergence of a Palestinian civil society characterised by truth and transparency.
Established in 2001, its objectives include higher standards in education, economics, health and culture, pariculary for women, children and young adults.
(External) Palestinian Family Planning and Protection Agency
Still a relatively 'new' partner to MAP, the PFPPA was established in Jerusalem in 1963 as an independent not for profit organisation whose goal is to provide Palestinians with quality services in sexual and reproductive health, in particular to underpriveleged families in the West Bank and Gaza.
Based in Jerusalem but with six offices and clinics in locations across Gaza and the West Bank, the PFPPA is a full member of the Internation Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
Palestinian Happy Child Centre (PHCC)
The PHCC is a community-based non-profit non-governmental organisation established in Jerusalem in 1994 by a multi-disciplinary team of health and education professionals. The mission of the center is to promote the well-being of Palestinian children, including but not limited to children suffering from trauma, neurological disorders, learning and development disabilities and other educational problems.
With assistance from international donors, the goal of the PHCC is to maintain and enhance existing services to all Palestinian children and maintain the number of current beneficiaries. The general objective of the PHCC during the same period will continue to be to meet the needs of all Palestinian children at the educational, medical, and psychological level.
(External) The Palestinian Working Women's Society for Development
The PWWSD recognises the universality of human rights and locates women's rights firmly within the principles of equality, justice and equity. It works for a civil and democratic society in Palestine and the empowerment of women and marginalised groups through the reform of communal structures.
Palestinian Youth Union (PYU)
Founded in 1992, the PYU aims to develop the full potential of Palestinian youth regardless of racial, political, social, ethnic or religious status and to contribute to the reconstruction of Palestinian youth through a range of activities and programmes.
St. John Eye Hospital
The St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital is a charitable foundation of the Venerable Order of St. John.
Founded in 1882, the hospital is located in East Jerusalem. Whilst it treats all who seek its care, irrespective of race, creed or ability to pay, the reality is that it serves the predominantly Palestinian populations of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. St John's in the sole provider of quality ophthalmic care and professional training.
More than 30,000 patients are seen annually and more than 3,000 major eye operations performed. A permanently staffed clinic is maintained in Gaza and, as a consequence of restrictions on movement, mobile clinics go out the rural and isolates areas of the West Bank.
Society Voice Association for Community and Civil Work (SVA)
The SVA is primarily concerned with strengthening civil society based on pluralism, rule of law, respect of human rights, and freedom of expression and furthering the empowerment of marginalized sectors, particularly women.
SVA aims to reach out to these sectors and to disseminate the ideas and the goals of the project through training, public awareness sessions, newsletters and radio programs.
(External) Spafford Children's Center
Based in Jerusalem, this centre's activities focus on the medical care of children, mothers and babies.
The centre offers a range of services and activities under one roof, which includes a medical centre, psychosocial support, special needs education, and counselling for traumatised children.
El-Wedad Society for Community Rehabilitation
The El-Wedad Society for Community Rehabilitation is based in Gaza City. It's goal is the psychosocial and educational rehabilitation of communities across the Gaza Strip, with a particular focus on women, children and the disabled. It tackles behavioural and social problems and aims to enhance counselling and psychosocial awareness.
