President of MAP

Baroness Helena Kennedy QC

Baroness Helena Kennedy has spent her professional life giving voice to those who have least power within the system, championing civil liberties and promoting human rights.

As a barrister she has been involved in many prominent cases, including the Brighton bombing, the Michael Bettany espionage trial, the Guildford Four appeal and the bombing of the Israeli Embassy.

Helena is Chair of the British Council, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, a board member of the Independent newspaper, and President of the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University.

She became President of Medical Aid for Palestinians in January 2005.

MAP Board of Trustees

Chairman

Mr Brian Constant CBE - Joined the Board of Trustees in 2003 and became Chairman in 2005. He spent his early boyhood years in Palestine and returned to work in Arab East Jerusalem in the lates fifties/early sixties. Following this, he has always had a desire to promote Palestinian issues.

Vice Chairman

Mr Robin Kealy CHG - A former career diplomat, he was HM Ambassador in Tunis from 2002-2004. AS Consul General in Jerusalem from 1997-2001 he acted as Britain's Ambassador to the Palestinian Authority and was the UK Permanent Representative to UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees.

Treasurer

Mr Martin Hughes - Runs a public relations business in London. A former Vice Chair of the Labour Middle East Council, he has a long-standing involvement in international development issues and has worked on programmes aimed at delivering humanitarian and long-term development assistance to the Palestinians since 1988.

Trustees

Mr Francis Khoo - A solicitor and former journalist, he is a co-founding Trustee of MAP. He was General Secretary of War on Want in the 1980s and is on the board and chair of several other charities, including Radicle.

Mr Mazen Masri - Runs a service business in the oi and gas sector. His family are among the founders of MAP and have supported MAP since its inception. He has been a Trustee of MAP since 1996 and is also a Trustee of the Welfare Association. He is an active member of the UK Arab Community and gets involved in supporting and raising the profile of MAP.

Mr Anthony Peel M. Chir, FRCS -

Mrs Abla Trebble - A registered general nurse and health visitor. She spent 14 years working as a senior nurse in Buckinghamshire where her duties included managing health visitors, district nurses and the school nursing service. She was also the child protection advisor for the local health authority.

Graham Watt MD FRCGP FFPHM FRCP FMedSci - Watt is MAP's Scottish Represenative. He is a medical practitioner, accredited in general practice and public health, and has been a Professor of General Practice at the University of Glasgow University since 1994. He is an elected Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences. He is also an international consultant to the Institute of Community and Public Health at the University of Birzeit. With his strong knowledge of Palestine, he has been a member of MAP board of trustees since 2006.

Dr Pam Zinkin FRCP, FRCPCH . is a retired consultant paediatrician with experience in  child health and disability both in UK and overseas..  She directed courses at the ICH on disability and the care of children in war and disasters. She is concerned with the determinants of health and advised the Mozambique MOH on child health planning. 

She has worked in many different countries and maintained her interest in the situation of Palestinians since meeting Swee Chai Ang in Beirut in 1982. She has carried out consultancies for WHO and other organisations in the Jordan, Egypt, Iran, the occupied territories and other countries.

Mr Samir Zreik - Joined MAP as a supporter in its earliest days and was subsequently invited to join the Board of Trustees. In supporting MAP's work, Samir says, he feels he is playing a small part in helping disadvantaged Palestinians.

Dr Swee Chai Ang FRCS - A founding Trustee of MAP, she is an orthopaedic consultant surgeon at the London and St Bartholomew's hospital trust. Working in Beirut during the 1982 invasion, she also witnessed and survived the Sabra and Shatilla massacres, writing "from Beirut to Jerusalem" about her experiences. She returned to London to help form MAP and as the first chair of the projects committee helped launch the volunteer programme in 1985. She has also co-authored the "Manual of War Surgery" and received the coveted 'Star of Palestine' award from the late President Yaser Arafat.
